Duncan Olthuis
Executive Director
Born and raised in Kamloops, Duncan Olthuis brings a lifelong passion for sport and a deep commitment to his hometown in his role as Executive Director of the Kamloops Sports Council. For the past eight years, Duncan has led the organization in attracting and delivering major events that drive tourism, support athletes, and create meaningful benefits for the community.
His work is guided by a clear vision: to enrich lifestyles through sport. Duncan believes sport has the power to connect people, promote wellness, and strengthen communities. By fostering strong partnerships and working collaboratively with local organizations, he ensures that each event leaves a lasting, positive impact on Kamloops.
Under his leadership, the Kamloops Sports Council continues to grow as a trusted leader in sport tourism and community development.

Lucas Sweet
Event Coordinator
Originally from the coast, Lucas brings a fresh perspective and creative energy to the Kamloops event scene. As Events Coordinator, he leads the planning and execution of several major community events, including the International Buskers Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, and Operation Red Nose.
With a diploma in Sport Event Management and a degree in Tourism, Lucas has developed a strong foundation in both planning and execution. His events prioritize not just fun, but also community engagement, safety, and accessibility, creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels welcome. His experience across both the sport and tourism sectors gives him the versatility to elevate every event he touches.
Now raising a young family in Kamloops, Lucas is deeply invested in shaping the city’s future. He believes in the power of sport and celebration to bring people together, foster pride, and build a stronger, more connected community. Through his work, Lucas is helping create a lasting legacy for Kamloops, one event at a time.

Maddy Nordee
Event and Activity Planner
With a strong athletic background and a lifelong passion for sport, Madison brings a dynamic perspective to the world of event planning. Her journey began on the court as an athlete and has since evolved into a hands-on role behind the scenes, helping bring events to life.
For the past five years, Maddy has played a key role in events across Kamloops, overseeing everything from concept to execution. Whether designing marketing materials or managing operations, she ensures every detail contributes to an engaging and memorable event experience.
Her creativity, organization, and understanding of sports culture make her an invaluable part of the Kamloops Sports Council team.

Vanessa Bunce
Community Program Coordinator
Vanessa is the heart behind many of the Kamloops Sports Council’s community-driven initiatives. As the coordinator for KidSport Kamloops, she works hard to ensure every child has the chance to play by supporting families with access to financial support.
In addition to supporting local member organizations with accounting, admin, marketing, communications, and volunteer coordination, Vanessa is your primary contact for all rentals. Whether you’re looking to book our versatile event trailer, reserve the backroom space for meetings or small events, or borrow sports equipment, Vanessa makes the process easy and efficient.
Her love for sport and community began long before her time at Thompson Rivers University, where she honed her passion for event planning and community outreach. Guided by a strong belief in the power of sport to build connection, confidence, and belonging, Vanessa combines her enthusiasm for sport with her event planning expertise, bringing passion and dedication to every project she tackles.

The Sport Awards Committee is responsible for the Annual Athletic Awards. Committee duties include the nomination, adjudication, and evaluation process of the Awards. - Tournament Capital Committee — Lisa Strachan, Anne Terwiel,
The Tournament Capital Committee is responsible for the development and management of the Tournament Capital Volunteer Program. - Facilities Committee — Chair: Dino Bernardo, Committee: Lisa Strachan, Charlie Bruce, Carolynn Boomer, and Duncan Olthuis
The Facilities Committee is responsible for communicating with LSO’s about their current facility usage and current gaps that are in the Kamloops sports facilities. Committee duties include advocacy for new LSO facilities and determining best practices for facility space. - Major Contracts and Events — Executive and KSC Staff
Major contracts and events will be organized and executed by the and the Sports Council staff. This covers the Bent Horn Games and any other major event management contracts that are obtained through KSC or the City.
