Gary Oakden

Year of Induction: 2025

Gary was instrumental in establishing the Kamloops Boxing Club, serving as head coach and director from 1973 to 1979, where he mentored many young boxers. A highlight of his coaching career was leading Team B.C. at the Canadian Championships in P.E.I. in addition to coaching his grandson, Paul Vos, in various tournaments. Throughout his career, Gary coached many youth in Kamloops, including champions like Jim Manson, Jim Stevenson, and Gary Derosier. His focus, however, was always on developing well-rounded, responsible, and respectful young men, a legacy that continues to inspire the local boxing community.

Greg Hawgood

Year of Induction: 2025

Greg Hawgood spent his junior career with the Kamloops Blazers, which eventually led to his jersey #4 being retired. He was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 1986 NHL Draft, and Hawgood embarked on a remarkable odyssey through professional hockey. Greg played 18 years of professional hockey and some of the teams he played for included the Edmonton Oilers, San Jose Sharks, and the Vancouver Canucks. Hawgood’s contributions to the sport are remembered for his playmaking abilities and his time in both the NHL and AHL, marking him as a valuable player during his career.

Catharine Pendrel

Year of Induction: 2025

Catharine Pendrel first started in the sport when she was 16 and was named a member of the Canadian National Team in 2004. Pendrel is a heavily decorated athlete who has earned numerous accolades throughout her career, including a gold and silver at the Pan American Games. Her international accolades include two-time World Champion, and won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Pendrel capped off her impressive international career when she won a Bronze Medal during her fourth Olympic appearance during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

1980-1984 Kamloops Furtown

Year of Induction: 2025

The Kamloops Furtown Men’s Soccer team began its remarkable domination of Interior Premier Soccer and BC Soccer Provincial recognition in 1980. Playing in the elite Men’s Okanagan Valley Soccer League, team known as Kamloops Zinetti (1980+prior), Furtown (1981-83) and Merchants (1984+). This team won four league titles, five consecutive OVSL playoff titles, three Royal Cup Victories and qualified for the Provincial Championship semi-finals four straight years, finishing as Provincial Runners-up in 1984. Bartram’s Men’s team won the BC Summer Games title in 1981, when the Games included the best Senior teams in BC.
